Default SSD Help

I'm looking to get an ssd for my laptop this summer. And i know the jmicron controllers (the older ones) cause stutter. So i'm looking for one that's not crazy expensive, preforms decent and doesn't have the jmicron controller.

Also, if i can have it 64GB that' be great too.

Here
is one i was recommended, but i can't tell if it has the jmicron controller or not.

I also saw this one but there is nothing on the internet about it (no reviews, nothing)

So if some one who is fluent in SSD, could you please help me out?

I had a gskill Falcon 128gb which I will completely recommend to anyone. It completely transformed my laptop, which was a very very high end model.

I recommend you looking into either the gskill falcons, ocz vertex's.

I recommend the 60GB OCZ Vertex or the 64GB G.Skill Falcon if they are not too much out of your price range.

60GB Vertex ($229.99): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227394

64GB G.Skill Falcon ($205.99): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231255

From what I understand the Vertex and Falcon drives are the same thing (both use the Indilinx Controller) except for firmware which can be updated on the Falcon to make it the same as the Vertex.

ah, thanks then. So when you say the vertex and falcon are the same, they both have internal raid 0? or is the internal raid 0 only for the vertex?

They are both single controller SSDs using the Indilinx Controller and 64mb Cache. They both average about 250mb/s read and close to 200mb/s write. They are both pretty close in performance to the Intel X25-M depending on the review you read.

Just use this link on what SSD you are planning to get, the only 3 controller i would look at are the Idilnix, inte, samsung controller. Stay away from the jmicron 602 for now.

Yup like they said the falcons and the vertex's. =] they are pretty much the same and price wise they run about $100 per 30gb (200 for 60gb and 400 for 120 etc.) From what i heard OCZ is coming out with some new SSD's i just skim read that somewhere.

Yeah I heard about one called Vertex Turbo though I don't know any details about it yet. I'm guessing it will be a tad faster then the current Vertex, and probably a tad more expensive as well.

I'm really liking my X-25M. Anandtech has the best articles on SSD's. And although the new Idilinx controller SSD's are closer to the Intel's in performance they still can't match it's random write speeds. That said they will still be noticeably faster than even a velociraptor, and worlds better than any laptop hard drive.
