Default What is up with my DVD drives?

This is less a write but more a reading problem.

When I insert an audio disk into my dvd drive both in itunes and media player im only able to play the first track with the other tracks giving me errors. "This is with every cd ive tried"

I had come to a conclusion that it must just be a bad drive and bought a new one connected it, popped in a cd, and got the same error.

Ive already tried the cd's in my 360, ps3, and car and they work fine. So for some reason my drives arent reading cd's correctly. It cant be my drives because really, whats the chances of both giving the same exact error. So I am at a loss of whats going on. Anyone have an idea?

*edit*

Their both SATA drives

Try using a differant media player. Might be rights management issues. Can you at least Rip the CD and see if all the tracks were ripped successfully?

Anybody got an idea is it worth buying a 3rd drive to see if I was just unlucky with a second drive or could it be something deeper?

I have a friend telling me it could be a software issue in Vista or maybe a media player I downloaded could have corrupted my codecs.

Is this a possibilty?

What drive do u have? Go to the drives web site and see if there is a firmware update and if so, update it, and see if that fixes your issue.

Ive tried driver updates, firmware, new sata cables, and so on.

Its down to two things Vista or hardware

I really cant see hardware because it plays and reads data and dvd's fine..

Im gonna install Windows 7, see if that works.

Ok so Im running 7 now to find my cd's are playing perfect, so its vista.

Now to find out whats going on, whether I should do a rollback or do a clean install or whether its worth it when 7 is out in 3 months.

Can seriously someone tell me *** is going on

I reinstalled vista to be greeted with the same problem, yet as soon as I popped a cd in Windows 7, it worked.

WTH is going on?
