Would it do any good if I where to buy a 34GB/74 GB raptor and install my OS on it? Would it speed up boot time or anything? If so does anyone know where I can find one? I guess what I'm asking is it worth selling my Rock Band to buy one.

However, here's my comparison in going from a 250 GB 7200.10 Barracuda to the 150 GB VelociRaptor with XP Pro SP2:
Game load times are a little faster too. In fact, the newest game I play is an old one: Quake 4. The game load time used to be so long that my 9800 GTX+ would downclock thanks to HybridPower kicking in. But with the VelociRaptor, the game load time in Quake 4 was just short enough to avoid the downclock due to HybridPower. So that was really nice. Now, some might say that the VelociRaptor is really loud. But, I never hear it, and my rig is really quiet (it's not silent, but it's not loud, so I should be able to hear a "loud" HDD). Now, I know you're referring to the old Raptor. But I recommend that you avoid getting that and get the VelociRaptor instead. It's definitely a superior HDD. Based on what I have learned about the Raptor vs. the VelociRaptor ever since I bought it, I think you'd be disappointed with the Raptor. So there you have it. I hope this helps at least a little bit.

Wait, so would it be worth getting a normal raptor for a boot drive? Because I could not afford a veloci from selling my RB
![]() Oh and also if I did get a normal raptor would I need some kind of HDD cooler or just my fans that cool the HDD on the front panel?

I mean, when I got my VelociRaptor, I was so excited that I made a thread about it. And a few people discussed their comparisons between the Raptor and the VelociRaptor, and they said that the VelociRaptor is noticeably faster. Regarding cooling: you shouldn't need any extra cooling whatsoever. I definitely don't.

Besides, the 150 GB VelociRaptor can be had for $179.99 shipped, and $159.99 after the $20 mail-in rebate. But, you can find it cheaper than $179.99 after shipping somewhere else if you don't want to mess with a rebate: http://www.google.com/products/catal...ton#scoring=tp

The Raptor has a small heasink on the drive itself (If you google it,you will see little fins on the side of the drive case)and the VelociRaptor simply inproves on this with bigger heatsinks. But your intake fan should do a fine job of cooling either of them

Alright, well like I said, I don't plan to go to extreme so I don't feel spending $150 on an HDD is worth it, but Rock Band for one's good, I don't play it much anymore because i've just been playing guitar on GH:Metallica lol.

I still say it would be much better to try and get a VelociRaptor. If you ask OCN to compare both, you will see people saying that the VelociRaptor is better/faster and more worth the time and effort than the old Raptor.
