Default Interface confusion, says sata looks like IDE

I have this laptop and it has served me very well for the 2 years I've had it. I decided to upgrade the hard drive and took it out to see which connector it uses and drew a . It looks like IDE except the top row is recessed. According to Amazon (and Frys where I bought it) it is a SATA connector but I'm used to the L sata connector. Any help would be appreciated.

I had one similar, it just requires an adapter. Ill look for info online and post links if somebody else doesnt beat me to it. the adapter of course should still be in your possession but you just need a similar but large hard drive right?

EDIT: Ive been reminded, just get the usual sataI dard drive but keep you adapter in order to install it again
The idea I have is that the adapter is still stuck to the back of the HDD, just pull it off and reuse it on the new HD. I am not familiar with any other type of adapter with these laptops

How many pins are on the connector? IDE is going to be (i think) at least 24, while SATA is only 8 for data and 4 for power.

That sounds like an ATA-6 connector to me. Either that, or it's some kind of proprietary connector.

You will almost surely need an adapter for a laptop HDD if you ever want to connect it to your tower. A simple replacement laptop HDD should have the same connection. It's not the same as on a desktop for sure.

According to HP, you have a SATA drive, though the connector does look like an IDE in the manual here. (I've never upgraded a laptop hard drive )

Also, the manual says you have 2 hard drive bays. Are you planning on reusing the old drive?

EDIT: Beaten by like 5 people

Does the hard drive resemble the following hard drive's connector?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148128

It's an ATA-6 connector.
