Default things to do to SSD

just bought an ocz vertex 120gb ssd and to be honest i don't have a clue about first things to do to if before i install windows 7.
flash latest firmware? what the story with the trimming?
any apps you can recommend to tweak/tune it so it runs at max efficiency?
raid 0 would be nice but also expensive

Think a new firmware has just come out for the vertex drives (none turbo) so you may want to update that if it's not got the latest firmware one on it.
Trim (wiper) is a utility that can keep the drive running at peak performance. You should run this once a week or so. Well that's part of my routine anyway

Also disable windows search, superfetch and any defraging software as SSD's dont like it. Basically anything that will cause unnecessary or excess drive writes.

You will find all you need here

Thumbs up Quick tips

Nice choice of hard drive. I'll quickly add some tips others have used to silence windows and its need to thrash your disk in the background.

-Disable Windows indexing/search service
-Disable System restore service
-Disable Windows defender service
-Disable Windows Prefetch
-Disable timestamp for last access to a file (fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 1 (admin.mode cmd prompt)
-Disable Automatic Short File 8.3 Name Generation

These are just a few of the many tweaks out there. Done each of these myself for a Raid 0 setup with excellent results.
