Default Is it possible!?

Curious if it'd be possible to install Windows 7 *TO* A flash drive, and boot a machine from it.

I mean personally i don't see whynot, but is there something I'm over-looking?

Yeah, it is possible with the right mobo and a big enough flash drive. On my mobo you can configure USB devices as IDE or you could just boot from USB in the pop up menu, but remember that W7 is pretty big, you would probably need a 16GB flash drive minimum to make it work right, plus running any OS on a FAT formatted devices can cause issues.

It's not worth it...the flash drive will die pretty quickly with read and write going on and not to mention how slow it will be...

It's been done before so go take a look at the Linux and Windows attempts via Google...

If you just need an OS to move from one machine to the other I would use XP, maybe even Hirens Boot CD, which has a mini XP built in plus many other very useful tools. What are you doing that you need a mobile OS, or is it just to see if you can?

Dunno what I'd need it for, would just be kinda cool to have.

Never know might find an application for it at some point.

Actually i thought I'd stash all my porn cleverly disguised as a windows7 flashdrive!
