Default Can't recognize DVD-R?!?! HELP!

Okay to start things off I am about to throw my computer out the window, take a 5lbs sledge hammer to it and run it over with a dump truck.

Now that that is out of my system I can maybe get some help. Okay I have a Lite On DVD burner. I have burnt DVD's on it before but they were all DVD+R, my mom bought me DVD-R and my DVD drive won't even recognize them. I have looked around for hours and all that I could find was that the firmware needed to be updated. So I did that, it only took me like an hour cause I was unaware you had to have REAL administrative privileges. But I solved that one on my own. Now installed the new firmware and had to reboot when I did I logged into MY administrator account and vista went to installing the firmware and installed something. I don't know. But when I installed it in the REAL administrator account it said it did and what not. So I still can't use these blank DVD's. Someone PLEASE help me!>! Please and thanks.

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdrecorder...&Search=Search

there a list of all the lite on dvd-recorders plus u should look into this sit. its helpful as to what makes and models do what. however if it says it does something but yet ur dvd-r wont do it, then it may be the lense or the recorder itself that may be screwed up. good luck

hmmm that wasnt listed on there, but i would uninstall whatever it is u installed for it, then redownload from the manufacturers website. its strange that it wil read dvd+r but not -r.....like i said could be somthing wrong with the lense or maybe its just fubar. o try that and i that doesnt work contact the company and ask for an rma or tech support. im sure its got some kind of warranty

heres the manufacturers donwlaod page fr that model

That is the download I used. When I insert a blank DVD-R disk nothing happens, no autoplay like the DVD+R. I tried to use Nero Vision to burn a DVD which I have used and it worked and when I clicked burn it said please insert blank disk. I was like ***? then I put in another and closed it, it acted like it was burning (and slowly, like one movie taking 8hrs) and took the DVD out and put it in the DVD player and notta. It said no disk in drive.

Man, hopefully you didn't brick the DVD player. I remember I had applied a firmware update to an old DVD player of mine and it never worked again. Is your computer still detecting the DVD player? If not, is it showing up in the BIOS?

Yes it shows up in both and 5 minutes ago I burnt a CD and it works perfect.

Maybe I am just not using the right burner? I was using Nero 9. What should I use to burn DVD-R's?

You could try ImgBurn, MagicISO, or PowerISO. That might burn it.
