Try using "Recover My Files" as it can recover partitions.
Of course it won't be able to do anything if you have overwritten the data.

The former is easy to recover with pretty much any recovery software.

The latter is probably impossible to recover.
Uhm actually you can recover a partition pretty easy using partition wizard. I helped this guy here http://www.overclock.net/hard-drives...ml#post7485083 but dont read where he says he loves me he was just excited that he got his data back

"Clean all" writes zeros to the entire drive, data is gone.

A normal format or just deleting a partition doesn't delete anything.

I understand your point, but just for clarity - deleting a partition or 'a normal format' deletes the partition and file allocation tables but not the data.

Scanning the drive with recovery tools can often recover both the partition information and identify the files, but none are 100% reliable.

while it's true that deleting files, or formatting a drive doesn't actually delete the files, they are still on the sectors of the drive

you just can't see or access them from the operating system, you need to use some special, data recovery programs to scan the drive and get the files back

the files will stay on the drive until they are over written by something else
so just continue installing windows 7, and then set that up properly, and attempt to recover stuff from your backup drive

a good freeware program i use in undelete plus
