So basically Velicoraptor>RaptorX>WD black??
I dunno,I'd say the Black would beat an old RaptorX (maybe not in access time)

Look into the Samsung F3 if your not getting a 10K drive. They beat the WD Blacks in transfers (But come in a little behind on access times, due to larger platters)

I have no clue what short stroking is, and I have never raided at all.

I'd go for the 1TB model

Short stroking, basically is,reducing the space on your drive to speed it up.It really helps access times.

Its a good idea, the older a drive is,usually the slower it gets

150gb raptor X
The "X" in the Raptor's name is just a clear cover over the drive's disks.

No difference in performance than a regular Raptor.

The 150GB Velociraptor is what you want.
