Default Questions About Short Stroking

I just took the plunge and have 2 f3 500gig on the way, they are replacing my ancient 36 and 74 gig raptors. (look below for the 36gig hd tune). What is a good % of the drive to short stroke, and what sector size should I use? Also, do you leave rest unallocated or do you partition it too? Thanks for the advice.

How much of your current OS drive do you use? Basically, the smaller you go, the faster it will be.

Currently about 40gigs (games being 20gigs of it) but I don't have many of the programs and games I usually have installed on it yet. Been lazy and haven't gone through the game collection, but would 150gig be good?

If you are running Windows 7 like your sig says you can resize the partition as you need more space. The whole idea is to keep the data on the fastest part of the drive. Look at a spinning record, the outside is spinning much more quickly than just by the center. If you keep the partition not a huge amount larger than what you need you will keep the data as close to the outside of the wheel as it can be.

How would you resize the partition in win7 if it's already installed?

Ok, figured I would bump to the top, I received my drives last night and raid 0 and short stroked. I got the same batch and they were 1 apart, S/n = xxxxxxxxxxxx08 and xxxxxxxxxxxx09 =). My HDtune blew me away! Short stroked to 120gig through my raid controller at 32 block size.

What do you mean 32 block size? In HDTune? Or 32KB stripe size in your array?
