Default SATA 2 price drop?

When SATA 3.0 comes out, how much of a price drop could I expect to see on SATA 2.0 HDDs?

When will SATA 3.0 come out?

Thnx so much.

Probably, but it will take a while. Look at SSD's. They have been on the market now for how long and still dont match traditional hard drives, in terms of price per gigabyte.

Hitting 3.8 was easy, getting a stable 4.0 ghz, that will be a challenge!

I honestly don't believe there will be much, if any, price drops.

I do think the SATAIII stuff will command a premium at first and some MBs are just coming thru the doors.

Do this. Go look up how much a certain sized PATA drive costs then go look up how much the same drive costs with SATAII connection.

Ok, done that? Yup, the PATA disc is MORE expensive. You most likely will see no price drops, just a reduction in stock. Since SATA3 is backwards compatible they'll just gradually let the SATA3 interface drives replace the SATAII.

Also, remember that mechanical hard drives are only now touching the SATA 1.5Gb/s ceiling. SATA3 is only important for SSD's, at least today.
