Default how resize partition in W7

My new Dell system with W7 Ultimate has been delivered with a 60GB partition C: drive for the OS system, and 550GB + D: drive for what I wanted for user data, my docs, videos, music etc.

On the 'small' C drive is user docs, programs, contacts, desktop etc. etc. - everything! Using the system defaults...C drive will run out quickly. I want this data/info/contacts etc on the D drive.

How can I get W7 to recognize my D drive for user data etc. and leave C just for the OS? Everything built into W7 e.g. Libraries...deposits files on C drive!

Should I just eliminate the partition and go back to one drive?
Or, can I expand the C drive to handle all that it expects to at the moment?
Or, I suppose I can manually ensure that I save all data to D drive, but then its another step always to put it into Libraries for recognition by W7 features.

Can anyone help me work through this?
Thanks.
Mismar

I hope Im understanding your question...

Im currently using Partition Magic:

http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

Im not sure if its compatible with W7

This program will enable you to create and mount partitions on any HD.. its very easy to use.

As too how to get data to be sent to different locations (eg D:\), you will need to point the program to that drive. This is usually achieved in the options / preferences of the program you are using.

Im not aware of any other automated way to do this.

Like I said, Im not sure if I have answered your questions.

From http://www.windows7home.net/how-to-m...indows-7vista/

Logged in as administrator, NOT the user you are trying to move:
- move your user data to other non-system partion, for example from C:\users\J to D:\users\J
- Use mklink to create a symbolic link from C:\users\J to D:\users\J
"mklink /D C:\Users\J D:\users\J"
Log back in under your account, your physical user data is now on drive D.

This is the easiest way:

Just open 2 windows. One where the current files are, and the second window where you want the files to be. Then simply hold the right mouse button and drag to the second window. Now you'll also have to push the shift button down and copy will change to move.
Now let go of shift and right mouse button and select move here.
When the files are moved over, just log off and back on again.

Or you can download TweakVI and do it that way.

Usually I put it on drive D in a folder called 'User Data'.
I put the following files there:
My Documents
My Pictures
My Music
My Videos
Desktop
Links
Favorites
Saved Games
