I'm about to buy 1 or 2 1TB drives that will go in my main machine (red dawn, below). Main OS is ubuntu 9.10. The drive(s) will be shared locally. I have a HTPC and a laptop that need access to it. HTPC is windows, laptop is OSX. I need a filesystem that will work in this scenario.
I can't deal with a 4GB limit so FAT32 is out of the question, and I dont want NTFS. I'm thinking ext3 because the other computers can access the media through the ubuntu share no matter what FS. And with a plugin I can read/write ext3 on the red dawn when I have to reboot to windows occasionally. any input?

Re read your post, ext3 is your best bet if you have a way to write to it locally from windows
