Smile nice tweak for those with ssd

a good buddy of mine on another forum, showed me how to change my setting from IDE to ACHI even AFTER windows is already installed, WITHOUT harming or damaging files or destroying windows. After being able to set my drives to ACHI i noticed a decent little speed boost when i ran my ssd benchmark test. If you installed Windows 7 in IDE mode, you cant just simply go to the bios and switch to ACHI, windows will not boot. So after running the instructions from Microsoft's support i was able to switch to ACHI.

here's the link to intructions:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

but basically this is what it says:

1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Msahci
5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
STEP 8. REBOOT and ENABLE ACHI IN YOUR BIOS and RESTART again

Also windows 7 hard disk went up 2 points

AHCI is not recommended with our particular OCZ SDDs though because the Intel controller might conflict with the SDD's. When I mistakenly installed Windows in AHCI on my SSD, even the installation was painfully slower.

I've read that if you install any additional storage drivers you lose trim at the moment - not sure how accurate that is.

Perhaps an OP edit is in order so someone don't jump on this and find out there may be an issue the hard way.

The storage manager is for RAID arrays and isn't needed for AHCI.

That being said, the registry edit you did should work and I had no idea that OCZ doesn't recommend AHCI.

Why is that?

I thinks its something with the trim command, when i 1st got my supertalent ultradrive me i had it set in AHCI it function great with windows 7 but when i ran wiper which is a manual version of trim it took over 24hours to finish and in some members it would not even work. When i set it to IDE it took less then a 1min to complete.
