Default Samsung Spinpoint F3's?

Yo guys,

I need to get a couple of new HDD's as my primary RAID 0 array.

I was looking into SSD's but they don't offer the the price/space I am after.

I then looked into VelociRaptors. But heard that they aren't that much faster than good 7200RPM drives anyway.

So, I heard about the Samsung F3's.

I am looking at the 1TB versions and would like to have 2 or 3 in RAID 0 to replace my current 3 x WD Black 640GB array.

Are these fast drives and would they compare to my WD 640GB Black array?

Cheers

Swear to god this has gotta be the third thread in the last 24 hours I've seen involving these god damn drives O.o

Alright. So lots of people like them. I've never personally used them. I'd say do it, based on what I've seen.

From what I've heard around the block, it's basically these things, a Seagate drive, and then the WD Blacks. The Seagates are first, then the Spinpoints, and then the Blacks.

I personally love my drive, and I'm wanting to get another so I can boast a RAID array

Try the Spinpoints, they sound amazing.

EDIT
So now I've seen FOUR threads based on these things.

They're the fastest offerings that Samsung has and is faster than the 640, 750, 1tb versions of the caviar blacks(not sure about the 2tb CB), and anything seagate has to offer. They're awesome drives and so far mine's been working great. Compared to your 640gb array? F3s in raid would probably be much faster as the 1tb uses two 500gb platters.

Yeah I had a complete system crash and had to 0 all the drives using ActiveKillDisk which reported bad sectors.

I also get a fair bit of loud clicking from them occasionally (usually on startup) and just to top it off, I am getting a few application errors and crashes.

Has anyone got a HDTune bench of a pair of the F3's?

Just for the record, my 3 blacks pull 270MB/s average read.
