Default Which back up solution do you use and why?

Which back up solution do you use and why?

Hardware? Software? Networked? Online? Combination? etc etc

I've really only used Software over the years, mostly Acronis True Image.

I think this question deserves to be posted here rather than the Windows forum because it will get buried quicker there and it could prove an invaluable thread alongside all the storage related discussion in this thread.

I like to keep an image of my installed OS just in case. I tend to back up data manually to a server and NAS device that I have, every now and then.

My Mac is easy - I just plug in the dedicated 500GB external drive and Time Machine kicks off.

A few DVD-r, *.ISO, and an old 160gb IDE with all of my music.

What is with this online backup hogwash anyways? This seems to be targeted specifically at people who just don't know how to copy/paste or drag/drop.

I run WHS that backs up all the household PCs nightly. Each back up is duplicated on two drives in case of failure. In addition, I plan to monthly archive backups to an external HD and place at either my father-in-law or a safe deposit box.

Where do you keep your disk or HDD? In your home? What happens if a fire, flood, theft, earthquake, etc occurred?

How often do you back up? Weekly? Nightly? Online backups can run daily or even hourly.

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it should work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single-Rail/Non-Modular PSUs are not always better than Multi-Rail/Modular
