What drive?
And yeah you can partition, its a good way to keep things organised.
You might wanna use your old IDE drive as a data drive and use the new disk as your OS drive.

It'll be fine as a main drive. Watch out with partitions though, ensure you have good backups in case it all goes wrong, which, believe me, it can so very easily with partitions.

In all honesty, I don't think it really matters all that much. The WD Blacks are (relatively) good drives (depends on who you ask).

Would be fine as a replacement for your 200GB IDE, and you can use your old IDE as a backup drive. Personally though, my backup drives are at least the same size as the combined space of the internal drives on the system. i.e.e if I have 2x 500GB drives internal, my external drive (eSATA or USB) is at least a 1TB drive. And me being paranoid involves multiple backups. But that's me. =P

Your wd black, if it was me i would be using as my main drive partitioned off 80/90gb for OS. To bad you didn't get two 500 and put it in raid0 that would be a very snappy set up.
