For the price it seems a steal, how do these stack up to the competion? (WD black 500, etc)

From what I've seen, similar speed, slightly slower access time, and a lot quieter.

The quieter part is particularly important for me. The WD Blacks have been described as rather loud in many reviews I've read, and that is important to me because my computer sits on my desk. Kinda sucks because I'm a WD fan. I just ordered two 500Gb F3's for raid 0, should have them on monday.

They have pretty much the highest transfer rate of any SATA mechanical disk available. But as said above they are a little slower than the 640GB Blacks for access time.

The best drive around right now is its bigger brother the 1TB F3. That has the same high transfer rates, but is much cheaper/GB. When short stroked to 640GB it can beat the Black access time, is faster sequentially, and it costs about the same for the same capacity.

yes my 1tb f3 is quite bad for acces time, for example when i load a map in cod4 mp, it freeses for 3secs and you can hear the hdd spinning up, so its seems like its kind of goes to sleep

That is not an access time issue - your access time is ~5-20ms. This is way to fast for you to notice a pause with your ears. If your access time was 3 seconds Windows would take years to boot (and I literally mean years...).

Your drive should not go to idle so quickly though - is this your boot drive, and what power saving options do you have? It sounds like something is wrong with your system.
