Default HDD activity causing stalling/lockups

So, the other day, I bought 2 750gb caviar blacks, set them up in a RAID0. Great! Then, I OC'd my CPU, but it turns out it wasn't stable after using it a few days, so I clocked it down fairly low.

But now a new problem arises:

My system will hang entirely, at random times, for 5 to 20 seconds, freezing the mouse and all, then acting normally. My case's HDD activity LED will come on while it's frozen, and then stop when my pc becomes responsive again.

This is probably the most frustrating thing I've dealt with.

My event log is filled with an error:

Error 51:

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR2 during a paging operation.

I don't know what it means. I've ran chkdsk /f, updated my chipset drivers, using WD's diagnostic program, and that's pretty much it. I don't know what to do.

Any sort of input would be greatly appreciated.

First thing I'd do is change the data cables on the HDDs.

Took a look at it. Thanks.

It describes the error, but not the circumstances. I don't have any dvd or usb drives plugged in, and it definately is harmful.

However, it seems to have cleared up on it's own overnight. But then again all I've been doing is browsing, and it really shows up when I'm downloading something at fast speeds.

I'll try changing the cables later.

Figured it out after a ton of digging.

My motherboard has two seperate purple SATA ports, so I thought "Wow! I bet these are for RAID!", and it turns out they're JMicron RAID controllers, called "GSata", seperate from the southbridge. It looks like they perform worse, and are buggy.

I'm going to use the SB ports and hope it works. I'm guessing I'm going to have to reinstall windows though, since it's on a different RAID controller...

Haha, I have basically the same board and I used those ports once just for experimenting purposes. You're right on, don't use them, they are junk, use the 6 lined up across the back of the board and you'll be golden. I'm running my Raid0 out of the bottom two ports.

And yes, you need to re-set up your raid array on those ports now, as it's a different raid controller entirely.
