When an application is loading, my Hard drive has noticeable seek times, is there any way I can minimize the noise?
A Hard Drive Enclosure? Any advice?

1) Get an SSD.
(They are completely silent)2) Make sure your drive isn't dying, it shouldn't be loud enough to annoy you. I wouldn't recommend a Enclosure because they usually make the hard drives run hotter.

Well I don't think it is dying, because it's one of those enterprise drives that barely die.

ALL disks die. The enterprise drives are spec'ed to live longer, but it is still average life.
However I suspect your drive is just badly fragmented, causing extra seeks and slowing performance. Run a defrag and see if it helps. Also see if your drive supports AAM, and if so enable it. For a tiny performance cost (really unnoticeable outside of benchmarks) you get much quieter seeks. |
