Upgrade mobo or get raid controller?

New to Overclock.net
|
I just picked up to wd blacks 640 from the sale.
__________________My gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L does not support raid. What should I do? Get a mobo that supports it or get hardware raid controller to raid0? or another suggestion? Seems like getting either or would cost me $150 so what do you recommend?

If you're satisfied with your current motherboard, just buy a RAID card.

I would get a new mobo. (see your other post) Since the pricing is roughly the same, might as well get a X-fire board too. Plus, you can always use that current board as a back-up or sell it. RAID controller cards work well, but I don't think there is a huge difference between a card and onboard when running only 2 drives in RAID0 for a desktop.

Perfect, thats the answer I was looking for.
__________________Didnt know raid cards shine at 4 raids or more, interesting. I think I will go with mobo that supports it and kill 2 birds with one stone. It's just I didnt know if I was gonna go xfire or not but already purchased 2 drives. Reps all around.

I wouldn't bother with a separate RAID controller unless you plan on RAID 5 (or 6).
__________________For RAID 0, 1, or 0+1, an ICH9R/10R will be one of the fastest options for as many as four fast drives.
