Well, my parent's laptop hard drive must have loads of them. I've plugged the drive into my desktop to repair it and attempt to recover the bad sectors. Here's where it's at now. I started it at around 8 PM Saturday Night EST (over 96 hours). It's a 120 GB hard drive if that matters.

What does the SMART data for the drive say?

No idea. I'll have to plug it back it and check this weekend. How can I run CHKDSK from the Command Prompt the Recovery Console lets me run? It keeps telling me I can't access the drive, and the progress I did make before I inadvertently stopped the check on the desktop got back a lot of data I wanted. I just need to run CHKDSK/r.

No, this isn't normal for 120GB drive. Normally a drive that small should take no longer than 10 hours to process.
Take a look to see what your SMART monitoring is saying. You might also want to run a drive diagnostic to make sure the drive isn't dead.

Give SpinRite a try, it fixed mine many times.

Problem is is that the hard drive won't even boot into Windows. Should I hook it back into my desktop again and try those methods?

There are bootable versions of diagnostic tools that you can use. You don't need to boot into Windows to test the drive.

Just had my dad pick up a 4GB flash drive since he was out to use as a bootable drive. What are the best ones to run at start up to try to repair with?
