Default Kentsfield benches

I suppose everybody knows today is the launch date of the Kentsfield quad core. QX6700 and Q6600 are analysed. I suppose you can guess the result: where the soft is optimised for multithreading the Kentsfield is supreme.

But let the benches speak:

That is such BS that the QX6600 isn't going to be released till next year. What is worse, we are all but assured that the prices of Quadro and C2D wont drop, because there wont be any competition to the C2D line, and the 6600 Quadro wont have been on the market enough to yield price drops. Bastards

They can't exactly hand it to you for free. If you were Intel and you had C2Q tech, you wouldn't be selling it for $200 would you? Yeah...didn't think so.

but the 800 price point? I think Intel can do better than that. This is just arrogant. I am not asking for it for free, but a 500-600 dollar price point is just more appealing. Hell, release a QX6400, not a 6700 and 6600. Intel is just pissing me off at this point.

Even bofore there price drops with the Conroe, intel was losing a big percentage on profit so they are looking to bring that drop in profits back up.
We can only hope the competition brings out something that will drive the prices down on both fronts some more

If I had $1k, I would be ordering one right now.

For those of us that can actually use 4 cores, this is a godsend. No need to buy an expensive Xeon motherboard and outfit it with FB-DIMM to get some serious horsepower going.

Maybe I will go hit my boss up for a loan

You do realize that the Quad's are 2 Conroe cores on 1 die right? So you want 2 CPUs for the price of one?? Which means you kind of are asking for it for free.

The pricing is fair and reasonable, regardless of whether or not is is affordable for some.

Dunno mate, think of it this way: if both the qx6700 and the x6800 OC at similar levels (3.4GHz stock air cooling) maybe some 2 extra cores don't hurt.
It's like Anand said: you can't add 2 more cores to the x6800, but you can sure OC the qx6700 up a few MHz.

IMO if youhave the money the quad is more future proof. I've read in one of the articles (the xbit one i think) that UT 2007 would have 5 threads... I'll look it up

Why get the X6800? Just get the E6600 unless you plan on going Dry ice or liquid nitrogen.

The only reason the X6800 is good is probably for world records.
