Yeah - they lost the entire market for cards without software to run on them

The G80 has nothing to do with market share. A) It's an enthusiast only card and - hate to break it to you - but we have absolutely no sway over the economics of the industry. B) It's too new. Even if it's the number one selling card, the effect of that (due in part to OEM's and retail stores selling off old hardware) will not be felt for about a quarter

My guess is that ATI has been loosing some market power due to it's lacking midrange cards. They had absolutely nothing to counter the 7600's as the X1800GTO didn't sell very well, they only came out with the X1650XT two weeks ago for their midrange and DX10 is just 2 months away.

Dont worry though, they'll bounce back, they always do.

Remember when nVidia was crap compared to ATI back in the 9800pro days?

If the X1650XT had been around a lot sooner, it would've made a difference. They released it way too late in my opinion. It's still a good card though.

What I find is that people are willing to buy something even if current software doesn't support its new features...

Take a look at EVERY 64-bit processor, and look at everyone who runs 32-bit windows.

Take a look at everyone buying 7 and 8 series cards from nVidia and X19 series from ATI- Is it unnecessary? More than likely, for today's applications. But for the games and apps of tomorrow, these are the up and coming hardware that will run them.

It's because Nvidia had a better mid-range card than ATi for a while until the X1650XT. 7600GT FTW!
