Pretty much what I've always said, but for the skeptics:

Ok, that's fine and dandy for when I'm watching hardcore hent--- I mean tasteful anime on my screen, but when I go and want to sit up right next to it and type something out, or if I'm playing with my wii (after all of that... Tasteful anime... I really enjoy takin' my wii out and throwin' it around for a few minutes before getting tired and going to sleep) I'm going to be closer than the perfected distance of viewing.

I have 20/15 vison though! I can see the lines!
I can program a calculator for these equations... let me get to work.

No, that just means you need a bigger screen to take advantage of 1080p (at distances >8ft). And what if you've got that big screen hooked to your computer and you're setting closer than 8 feet away??

Especially during action scenes, when things are exploding. That is kinda when my brain shuts off, and I chug down massive amounts of beer and nachos, and scream "Woooo!!!" whenever something bigger than the last comes "boom".

vertical resolution = arcsin([1/2 screen height]/[viewing distance]) * 180/pi * 2 * 12 vertical resolution/1375 = arcsin([1/2 screen height]/[viewing distance]) sin(vertical resolution/1375) = [1/2 screen height]/[viewing distance] Equation for finding minimum distance from a monitor for 20/20 vision: [viewing distance] = [1/2 screen height] * sin(vertical resolution/1375) For a 1280x1024 19" 4:3 LCD, you would need to be at 6" away to notice any lines.

Im about 1.5' - 2' ft away from my 32" 1080i that doubles as my monitor. . . i can see the lines if i try. . .
But I think what he's trying to get at is that alot of people buy tech by the numbers and don't really look at real world functionality. most people keep their 43" plasma a safe 6' + feet away meaning they'll never truley see the difference between 720p and 1080p. I for one swear i can see a difference. . but im rarley more than 5 ft away anyway. . . .It sort of the same argument as those thinking they can see a difference between 80 fps and 150 fps on their 70 hz lcd screen. . . a rough analogy.

meh, I dunno if I can totally agree that you can't tell, I think honestly its the motion, it seems more fluid at 1080p than 720p. Thats just the way I preserve it anyways, thats 720p on a toshiba upconverting dvd plyer and over the air HD broadcast, and thats 1080p on a blu ray that I seem to notice a difference, reguardless 720p is awesome and it will be what im buying..a 720p/1080i dlp probably
