Wrong.

Unless you want to place up money that your AMD will clock above 3Ghz (not saying that isn't possible), I'd put my money on the E2140. They're not that far behind from their big brother chips.

I don't notice a difference at all from my E6300 @ 3.3Ghz to an E2140 @ 3.15Ghz. Super Pi is only around 2.5 seconds higher too, benchmarks (05) only showed ~200 point difference (mainly clock speed), and others (06) only showed <100.

A 10x multi for $85 /drool

Just a quick look at 2160 benchmarks I would think stock 2180 is about the same performance as the 4300, but for about $30 less. Impressive I think, 10x multiplier is nice too
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...ium-e2160.html

Look at the 2160 OCed to 3.4ghz vs the x6800. Thats impressive for a cheap cheap chip.

tested some 2160's some time ago, had a fsb wall around 403-407 mhz. But 401 were mostly rock stable. I guess thouse 2180 will have no difference. But 4 gigz for less than 100$ is nice.

Exactly what I was thinking That could tie me over until penryn quad cores are really available and needed for things like crysis (if its needed)

I should wait and get the E2180 but I feel happy that my E2160 is able to run at 3.4G. E2160 or E2180 with 8600GT should last 12+ months for me.

Little chips look well worth thier price and if you bundle them with a board that will support 45nm you got a great setup to upgrade to.

No it doesn't. My E2140 at 2.6 blows away any X2 anywhere near its price. The E21*0s are great chips for the price.

I'm quoting this whole thread for truth, except Kramy.

The E21x0's are VERY nice budget CPU's. They have the same overclockability as the C2D's. They're really starting to combat the AMD budget builds.
