The best of the best isn't suppose to have a good price / performance ratio. I don't know who would expect it to and I don't know why people are surprised by this.

No one has seen the BIOS yet either.

X38 will have its place.

Pauldovi, first the X38 boards will be slightly more expensive than any of the P35 boards currently available. Second we aren't bashing, we are merely quoting people on test sites that have actually had an opportunity to work with the boards and compare them to the existing P35 boards.

So far best of the best seems to be a real stretch.

How do you know the price point of the X38 motherboards?

I also don't like how these reviews compare the boards. It is sort of pointless.

This just proves that I should stay put with my P5K for now. I am running my CF on a 24 LCD and on max settings, no FPS below 60 on all my games. The only advantage to me that the x38 would give me is on benching by opening up the PCI-E's to 16x...but even that is questionable because I remember a comparison of 650i (8x) vs 680i (16x) and the Speed of the PCI-E was not a factor on benches.

The gigabyte board is already listed at several sites at $299 USD. (DDR2 only of course).

So if you are comparing the gigabyte X38 (which is what tom;s used btw) to any of the P35 DDR2 boards (at far lower prices), that should answer your question.

More apples to apples would be the asus blitz formula I just ordered. Dual 8x8x crossfire, DDR2 and can hit 600 FSB. It sells for $370 USD (about $285 CAD here although i paid less).

1 X38 board on the market at 1 e-tailer?... You really can't use that as a price comparison.

Why didn't they use a Quad core to test this motherboard? Why would you buy a $300 motherboard and not a quad core? Why didn't they overclock?

I think these are the aspects that will prove the x38 superior.

Agreed X38 wasn't really geared toward dual core overclockers but rather marketed toward being a monster quad core overclocking platform. I love legionhardware but they had a crap review of the boards. The article should have been much longer and more detailed, such as pics of the bios and overclocking with both quad cores and dual cores. That would be the ultimate article.

And also paul you are right you can't say anything about prices until you see more than one e-tailer having these boards in stock. Until i see Zipzoomfly New egg and amazon with these boards i will not judge.

No review has yet revealed the BIOS features.

Paul, did you read the Tom's article I linked in my earlier post?

They tested the board with a QX6850, that would be a quad core. I wasn't referring to the legion article at all.

As valid as all these arguments are, what will take advantage of dual 16x lanes?

Don't forget, these are PCI Express 2.0 16 x 16. That is 32 x 32 in PCI Express terms.
