For all the people with connections why isnt nvidia doing this 8900GT(8800GT) 8900GTS(8800GTSv2). Also why didnt the shrink the GTX and come up with one slightly faster 8900GTX 620-630 Core

So you dont think the lower memory bus will hinder it at high resolutions?

does anyone know for sure if the GT will have 96 or 112sp's? that the only reason i ditched my 320mb is for the extra SP's and memory

I doubt the extra 64bit on the GTX would do much...maybe at high res you might notice something.
Are the new GTS gona be the same PSB as the current one? I really hope they make it on the GTX PCB...it'll be so confusing with 3 variants of the GTS...not to mention the many different editions. It's got the same stuff as a GTX essentially, so I think it should.

the GT is supposedly a replacement for the current GTS. So in theory...you kinda wasted your time if you sold off a GTS.

No one knows for sure but I mean the leaked benchies point to a 112 SP GPU.

really i dont think i wasted any money. i think it would be better to have a 65nm core rather than an 80nm. i can higher overclocks(possibly) than my GTS, plus i'll have more vram. and the lower power that the card consumes is good for me b/c i only have a 550watt psu, and i might be able to SLI 2 of these with out putting a strain on my psu

I'll be getting that 8800gt also. If the benchmarks are true, which would make sense, it should be better than the current gts'.

Does anyone know if the rule still stands for SLI that as long as you have the same number code for different cards, that they will still sli together? so if I have a 8800gtx and a 8800 gt, they will sli? That was the rule right?

That said, it was only for the "round" of upgrades that will be released next Tuesday. The top-end cards (8800GTX/Ultra) will see an update before Christmas (think late November). I have seen a couple reliable rumors that a dual-GPU-on-one-card solution is in the works based on the 8800GTX architecture (think 7950 GX2 but w/ 8 series) and that newer, cooler, faster GPU cores are on the way. But remains to be seen is what Nvidia will name the new cards. Seeing as they are sticking with the "8-series" moniker for the 8800GT, I doubt they're dropping it any time soon. ATI, though, will be calling their new card the HD3800 - so it remains to be seen if Nvidia will take the bait and call their new card the 9800 GTX. AND, if Nvidia does decide to go that route, then the confusion issue arises. It was only a few years ago that ATI had a Radeon 9800 card available. My guess is that Nvidia will finish out this year and early next year with an 8900 GTX, and an 8950 GX2, and next year mid-year they will have a completely new naming scheme. That is 95% speculation, though.
