Well price wise the 3870 owns but the 8800gt was suppose to be priced at same thing but didn't happen so either one of these things probly happen the 8800gt comes down in price or the 38xx cards go up.

If you are looking at power consumption, price and new hdtv features, then yes, they are better.

If you are looking at performance alone, no they aren't. Wait till the 20th my friend and I can actually post the benchmarks.

I suggest you do the same as well. Taken directly from AMD's whitepaper on DX10.1

The push to 10.1 does not mean that current DX10 cards will be obsolete. The functions are a superset of DX10 that will allow 10.1-capable cards EXTRA features, however minimal they may be, and the current DX10 cards will just continue without those features. Much in the same way that DX9 cards can not utilize DX10 features.

My only beef with your original post was that you were knocking the 3870's for not beating the 2900XT when they are clearly not in the same price class.

You're right I shouldn't have done that. AMD even has a chart that has the 3870/3850 listed as the midrange and the 2900XT as the current highend, with the card poised to take the spot of the 2900XT being the 3870X2.

The reason I replied the way I did is because it seems almost everybody is under the assumption that the 3870 was the new top of the line, and it isn't.

Also DX10.1 does not really have "extra" features, it is nothing like the move from DX9 to DX10. It's more like the move from 9.0a to 9.0b to 9.0c. I can't find the initial article but the R600 already supports the new AA requirements in 10.1 as well as FP32.

Well I can tell you right now that I get 19056 in 3dmark06 running Vista....so I bet I break 20K in XP.
