Default [Hardware Canucks] 3870 review

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...html#post26213

In some cases, the 3870 beats the 8800 gt in lost planet, and the never yet tested game of hl2 (ati oriented), which is one of the most played games.

well done in some cases for hl2

nice x-fire score

I love how a pair of 2900XTs scores better in xfire than the 3870...

and as a single card.

In most every 3800 thread you're constantly saying "YAY 2900!!! RAWRR!" or something to that effect? Insecure, I think.

And you do realize that the 2900XT is $400 and the 3870 can be had for $219? Does a single 2900XT beat Crossfired 3870's, because they're pretty well the same price.

Throw in less power consumption, heat, and improved video decoding. Oh yes... DX10.1 as well....

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it should work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single-Rail/Non-Modular PSUs are not always better than Multi-Rail/Modular

And all those too! For me it's the wallet that influences 99% of the decision and I'm pretty pleased with the price point on these cards. After seeing this review (though it does seem a bit contradictory to other results) I'm pretty excited to see the 3870 performing so well. I was hoping for decent Crossfire results because I want to go to a 24" monitor, but it was either going to be 8800GT, 8800GTX or 3870 Crossfire. I know they're not exactly in the same classes, but I don't want to have to buy an SLI motherboard, and I don't want to be spending over $500 on graphics hardware.

No, not insecure. I would post the benchmarks right now if UPS would hurry up and get me my damn replacement HR-03

The tracking says it's already in the state I live in, and yet it it scheduled for delivery on the 20th. God UPS sucks big time.

Anyway, if you actually took the time to compare the more advanced features and specs of the 2900 and the 3870... as well as factor in the volt modded bios' that finally were posted on xs for the 2900, you would understand what I mean. I doubt a 2900 will beat 3870 crossfire. But, I didn't pay for an XT, I got the pro. It makes no difference though, they are the same card, different bios, and the pro bios is faster clock for clock.

Go ahead and call me insecure if you will, but just wait until the 20th

EDIT:
I know the 2900 uses more than double the power, but I don't care about that. Also, it will support DX10.1. Take the time to look into what DX10.1 actually is and then look at the R600 architecture and you will understand.

The 3870's are an all around better card. It'd be sweet if you could get another card and we could compare results.
