The only problem is that 8800GT won't be freely available until January, and even if it was, it's current price is closer to $300.

Uh it's all driver based performance anyways. If and when i buy a new card, it will be when one of them releases better drivers.
EDIT: and i was pretty sure stock 88gt got 12k...

Although the 8800gt is completely gone(other than tiger direct and ncixus right now) if the 3870 is available when i buy, i may end up not wanting to wait.

The 2900XT looked decent from the 3dmark06 score...but what happened to it! 3DMark06 is not made to test these new cards.
I never said that I would spend money on hardware to get a better 3dmark score, I was just proving him wrong.
