My PNY 8800 GT box states DDR3 too.
Actually, i have seen worse box arts done before actual release. Everything's possible.

I'd rather have a D9E with 1GB of video memory.

I don't know if it's fake or not, but the card sure is ugly.

According to Asus's specs the memory interface is still 256-bit. With this in mind there won't be any major performance increase from the extra memory. 1GB of video RAM requires a 512-bit data bus in order to be used effectively.

Of course, the extra 512MB would see some use, but the fact that the GPU would only be able to address 512MB at any one time renders the extra memory pointless. All it would do would save a little read and write time from the HDD as previous texures could be stored in the redundant memory.

Either way, the 512MB version is the smartest choice. If I really wanted to get rid of extra cash I'll just flush it down the toilet.

This reminds me of high school computing classes, where they tell people that the higher the clock speed of a processor, the better it is. The same goes for the amount of memory on a graphics card. Most people have probably seen low end cards, such as the FX5500, and 7300GS with versions that have 512MB of memory. Hmmm, yes, 512MB of memory on a card with a 64-bit data bus that can only address 128MB. Hmmm....

Time for a trip to the bathroom me thinks.
