Default [custompc]Rumour control: P45 chipset in January 2008

So, P45 name is alive but not pci-e 2.0.

Cheaper than the X48, but still offering a 1,600MHz front side bus

P45 might be a redundant name to anyone in the UK, but that hasn’t stopped Intel from apparently using the name for its next mainstream motherboard chipset. According to a motherboard manufacturer that we’ve spoken to, Intel is planning to introduce the new chipset in 2008, possibly as early as January, and the rumour is that it will basically be the same as the P35, but with a 1,600MHz front side bus.

The timing of the launch sounds about right to us, as Intel is also planning to launch its first CPU with a 1,600MHz front side bus, the Core 2 Extreme QX9770, in January 2008. Intel also plans to announce its X48 chip for enthusiasts at this time, which supports the 1,600MHz front side bus as well.

most P35 boards out now should easily hit 1600mhz fsb. dont really see much reason for releasing it imho.

Agreed but if P45 officailly supports 1600MHz, then we may go for higher fsb such as 2000MHz.

point well taken..... if they can OC like the P35s do, then maybe there might be a good reason for picking one up. seems like i only got my P35 a month or two ago and already its 2nd/3rd generation.

I like the sound of new boards with new chipsets and all... no doubt they are "better" products given the rate at which PC tech is advancing. But for my most recent rig (in sig) i went with a P35 (p5k premium) board that runs stock at 1066fsb. this same board is now running a B3 q6600 at 3.2GHZ with 1828fsb!! newer is better, obviously, but i dont think ill be looking very closely at another board until an 80%+ increase in fsb seems attainable. I am 100% satisfied with my p35 board and im glad i didnt wait for x38. just my 2 cents... feel free to flame me
