Well I am not surprised for one. The GTS 640 didn't even use all 640mb so why use 1gig. At very high res the memory makes a difference but on normal res then 512 is plenty. This was seen in the 640/320 versions of the GTS as well. Unless you run high res just get the 512.

Well Im happy with my 8800GT personally i think it was a good upgrade from my GTS320mb. I can now max crysis in dx9 at 1680*1050 and maintain a 40fps+ all the time cept for when there was a hell of alot of guys after me in a gun fight like 10+ it dipped down to about 34 so it was still playable.

Not really, 256-bit isn't limited yet, but 512bit is close though (As in, for more than whats pretty much 2 cards total.)
