Default [ExpRev] 8800GS VS 8800GT

Quote:
The quick test shows the 8800GT leads about 27% comparing to 8800GS. But their price gap is about 50% in our local market.

The price of 384MB 8800GS and 768MB 8800GS is 1199CNY(165USD) and 1499CNY(204USD). Price is simular to HD 3850, so we can expect a mid-end war is incoming.

Again, I thought this card was an OEM-only part for Dell and whatnot to toss in their rigs.

But how nice of an overclocker will it be? It has less SP's than the 8800GT, but it may still be able to go toe-to-toe with it.

And, will it blend?

This model makes me anger though. It has an independant cooling system, similar to a Zalman, but still needlessly has the dual-slot head. You could fit a PCIE x1 card overtop it, if it weren't for that.

Apparently dual-slot means powerful, no matter how needlessly.
Well think about this--have an 20% overclocked 8800 GT vs. a 20% overclocked 8800 GS. Who would win? 8800 GT. I love the GT. So much. Its beautiful. =o

Also, some 8600s are going for 180 still, does that mean they'll go down in price?

Thought the 8800GS was an OEM card?

And those bus's sound familiar -- is this card a G80?

Although 384 was the GTX's trick, it was the 320-bit VRAM bus plus 64-bit bus for the 128mb of Physics memory. This is confusing all around.

It'll backhand your sister and degrade your mom, but they will still love it and want to date it because it is just that good. I love this card so much that I burned my tongue trying to french kiss it, and I still keep trying.

Interesting card, looks pretty good. I expect it should be on par with a 7900GS performance wise?

This is similarly the same case as it was when the 7900GT debuted then the 7900GS. Performance and Price difference/value was very relative.

Hokay. Just did a bunch of research, I guess whereever I heard that from was inaccurate. I THOUGHT the 8800's had onboard physics processing and the GTX had memory just for that.

Still, why put an expensive 384-bit memory bus on the cheapest 8800 card, unless this is simply a salvage operation of failed G80 cards meant to be GTX's.

Is this G80 or G92?

Its not a 384-bit bus. Its 192-bit. The 384 you are thinking of is the memory size. Its still a G92 BTW.
