yeah, so start the clock when the PS3 was released and figure out how many 360's were sold comparatively. Obviously, the Wii is just a freak (I'm glad I have one though ). But yes the PS3 has been gaining steam, and I imagine that the coming GT titles will provide added sales stimulus to the PS3 as GT is a killer app for Sony.

Well, I think I'm pretty open about not wanting to pay extra for non-gaming functions in my consoles. But as long as standalone BD players cost as much as a PS3, yes, people will see it as a good value.

I don't have a PS3 yet...how can the battery be replaced if it's integrated? When you say "integrated", I'm envisioning a closed shell on the controller...no access to the battery.

Rechargables in my Wii and X360 controllers work great. They last several weeks, and if they die, I just swap them out with new ones. No time spent corded up while charging...

Which is a bit misleading. It's not like you can project any kind of trend from this snapshot comparison. I mean, sure, it's an interesting number...but remember, at the six month mark, the PS3 was far and away the worst selling console ever after six months. Also interesting, but largely irrelevant at this stage. You certainly couldn't have predicted that they would have sold as many as they have at twelve months based on those six-month figures.

Which gets back to the point I was alluding to earlier. It's fun to digest these numbers, but it doesn't reflect any market trend. But the author is implying that it does...his assertions are dubious.

The controller can be cracked open and battery replaced just like in an ipod (although admittedly more difficult in an ipod). I simply don't like having to have tons of backups on hand, that's just "more stuff" that I've got to put away. I'm just not a fan of them, not to mention, when the damn tab breaks off, and then you have to tape it in there so it doesn't fall out at some crucial stage in a game, now doesn't THAT tick me off.

I can see where your coming from, it does add +$$ to overall pricing, but a lot of people like a total solution; its less clutter, less hardware, and less hassle.

The ps3 battery is 5 small screws away from being replaced. I like rechargables too -- I prefer them in my camera. The battery in the Ps3 controller lasts a long time, I cant remember the last time I recharged any one of my controllers. When I do, it takes 30 mins, I could literally go make some food, take a shower, or just play with it plugged in and it doesnt bother me at all. But, everyone is different

And, to the market trend, the ps3 is slowly gaining ground:

You do realize that those Google Trends graphs are comparing searches and news references, not sales or units sold, right?
