You are right. Sometimes I see like 1 or 2 ARCADE versions at a walmart but specialty stores like best buy are always sold out. I am sorry that you believe that the more a unit sells the (by some sort of magical power) better it performs. The PC will still be here in 10,20 even 30 years from now, consoles will not. I wouldnt even speak on this thread if Sony hadnt spouted off BS at the mouth. "The ps3 will really begin to manifest its true power in 5 years..." BLAH statements like that anger the REAL gaming community that has built up this industry and the uneducated consumer buys this load of crap.

I was thinking the same thing last night...only i was thinking how much i HATE the PS3 controller and how much i hate the fact that they dont offer removable batteries. On my 360 i have a battery pack charger. I have 2 batteries "on tap" and never have to worry about them running out. Yet last night with my PS3 i had to actually get up and plug in the stupid USB cable and sit closer at a horrible angle so i can continue playing my games while the stupid batteries charged. That combined with the fact that they dont charge while the console is off (Xbox does....) is a HUGE minus. Instead, i plug it in to the Xbox 360 and let the Xbox pick up the PS3's lack of options....in more than one way (games, live, friends chats...). The PS3 is a great console, but if it didnt include the Blu Ray, it would be the failure of the decade.

it's all a matter of opinion I suppose. I have charged my PS3 controllers once, and have probably 30 hours of gameplay on them currently, and they still indicate 2/3rds or better life, so I don't know. I never really turn my PS3 off, (it folds) so I didn't even know that it wouldn't charge while off. Is the 360 controller Mini-USB?

I again reiterate that availability plays a negligible part in this discussion, as I don't for a second believe it was any more difficult to obtain a X360 during it's launch season, than it was for the PS3 during its. In fact the only console I didn't get during launch was the PS3, though that was because I didn't want to spend that much money at the time. I was able to get both the X360 (RROD and long forgotten) and the Wii during their launches without reasonable hassle for new consoles.
Your recollection of the respective launches is either seriously flawed, or you have experienced the exact opposite scenario of everyone else in the nation.

It is a fact that when the X360 launched, they were extremely scarce. They weren't "Wii scarce", but you had to be somewhat persistent to score one that XMas.

By contrast, when the PS3 launched, they were not scarce. Anyone willing to spend $600 could acquire one that XMas, often with little more effort than simply going to any random retailer. Posts from OCN members making jokes about how there were stacks of PS3s available at Best Buy are still quite fresh in my mind...go search for them, if you don't believe me.

Is any of this important to the sales figures? To some degree sure, but probably not as much as has been made out. Producing more X360s probably would have directly churned into more sales; no different that producing more Wiis would inarguably have resulted in more sales for the past two Xmas seasons. (It has been argued by soem analysts that Nintendo has left roughly a billion dollars on the table by not keeping up with demand. Microsoft certainly left some money on the table by not meeting their demand that first Xmas, too.) By contrast, producing more units would not have increased PS3 sales; they were clearly unable to sell all of the ones thay did produce, producing even more would have accomplished nothing.

What was the point of our argument again?

I have clearly forgotten. I think the point was, that if you considered sales figures starting the clock from when the PS3 launched, that the PS3 is closing on the 360. So essentially ignoring 360 installed base prior to PS3 launch. Granted this is a somewhat convoluted value, but it does indicate that the PS3 is closing ground on the 360 in terms of current sales trending. The same could have been said perhaps when the original xbox launched, however, with the HUGE installed base of the PS2 and the relatively low adoption rate of the xbox, I don't think it was even a thought.

I personally am of the opinion that a personal computer would probably be obsolete in a few years. but thats another story.

you say uneducated consumer buy is this load of crap. who are you to decide who is uneducated and who isnt ? were you born this wise as you to claim to be ? are you not a part of the community. If people are this uneducated , GO AND EDUCATE THEM, stop being an arrogant fool . I couldnt care less about what a company says. It is their job to promote their product however they can.

by your logic , no matter how many pc's have sold, its not really the best performing platform out there.

Fanboy much? Quit flamebaiting. I know plenty of people that have Live, and they're all pretty smart. Not to mention the sheer number of Engineering majors I know that have Live at my school.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is a 360 exclusive, and I never have seen what the big deal with Little Big Planet was. It just seems like one of those games that people would tire of very quickly. Not to mention it looks very childish, which is funny when Sony fanboys accuse Nintendo of being childish.

Oh yeah, I can't believe you left out MGS4! That's gonna be bigger than any of the games you mentioned.

The availability of the 360 was no worse or no greater than that of the PS3 during their respective launches. The 360 had the advantage of getting to market first and had no market competition in the form of next-gen consoles to compete with, in fact it still had a hard time keeping up with sales of the original xbox and the PS2. The PS3 launched during the same holiday season as one of the biggest selling consoles (the Wii) while contending with an established next-gen console in the 360. Availability of the console is negligible in this discussion.
There was about a 3-4 month shortage of 360s after launch. Even more so with the Wii. Its still hard to find one. When the PS3 launched, there was plenty to spare. In fact, about a week after Christmas, I went to one of the Best Buys here and there were about 30 PS3s on display.
