Remember 4 years ago when a mid range card was powerful enough to at least PLAY every game???

Nowadays you need a $220 + card to get a game to even run decent. What is going on?!?!?!

You can run any game on a midrange card, just not at the highest possible settings.

I could "run" or should I say "Crawl" Crysis in sandbox 2 with my old Radeon Xpress 200M and 512MB of RAM. 7 FPS.

Yes, but when I bought my GeForce 2 MX with only 32 megs on board, I could run EVERY game out on mid settings!
When I bought my ATI Rage Pro Turbo 8 Megs on board I could run ALL games out with settings CRANKED!!!

b4 THE 8800gt i pwned a 8500. It crawled in Bioshock on low settings. Crawled. Don't any of you think programming has gotten sloppier, OR Hardware manufacturers aren't progressing enough?

Here's the biggest travesty. Why does a last gen card outperform a current gen card? That should never happen. When I went GPU shopping and bought the 8500 GT, I was baffled to see the 7950GS was more expensive than an 8600... And all I could say was "why?"

Now I know of course that it is a more powerful card. But its completely for last gen to outperform current gen.

come to think of it u could be right.....
i have an old powercolour x800gto which i have just upgraded this christmas
that thing would run everything COD4-MOH AIRBORNE-CRYSIS DEMO
In the demo the x800 would play it high on everything at 1152x768
bit choppy but still run it
i also have a smaller rig i use to download mainly and i bought a new XFX geforce 6300LE and that would not even run warrock let alone COD4 ...CRYSIS (never) so yes maybe it has got sloppy

Dude, this is a budget card, for $150, it does pretty good. Now when the 9800GTX comes out (you know it will) you know it will trounce the 8800GTX like no other.

Wow, a bunch of cards that nvidia is releasing.....not too impressed with the 9600 when its so close to a 8800gs but it does lack 32 shaders.

This is so confusing. It was always the 800 then the 600. 9600GT cant fint in the 9000 series. Juts look at the 9800GTX it has 384 SP. It will be worst then 8600GTS was with the 8800. 8800GT spects would have been perfect for 9600GT since is close to 8800GTX performence. They got to stop naming this way. People still thing is like old times.

10k is a nice score for a video card - in 2007. in '08, i imagine that 20-25k is going to be the standard, at least until the next version of 3dmark comes out and people are once again struggling to hit 5k.
