Awesome. I'm jealous. I still have about another year before I can convince my wife I need to upgrade.

Yes, programs like HWMoitor and Coretemp are saying that my core#1 is idling at 55C and core#2 is idling at 48 when this thing isn't even overclocked, yet when I use EasyTune 5 (came with my Gigabyte board) it's reporting in the 37 degree area, so really I don't know what the exact temperatures are. =(

I would trust CoreTemp since the BIOS temp (used by SpeedFan, EasyTune etc) used to give me sub-ambient temperatures

E8400s are limtied by VCore IMO, temps are really a non-issue when you risk burning your chip at >1.45V anyway.

Hmm coretemp reports my idle at 30-33C and my load at 49-51C. Seems normal.

Although these also gave a really low idle, sometimes less then ambient, but you get my point.
Congrats on the first intelligent response in this thread!

Is it a matter of improperly reported temperatures, or cpu's overheating? Well,
if the proper temp isn't being reported, you may be fooled into thinking you have
more room before critical temps are reached. So both

Yeah, that's retarded. I've been trying to decide between the E8400 and the Q6600 for the last few days, and finally decided on the E8400. Then as I am going to buy it I find this out. I finally have all the money to buy my rig and this happens...
