Default [ExpRev] GeForce 9800GT is a 780i-like product

Quote:
Do you still remember NVIDIA nForce 780i? It is only a 680i will PCIe 2.0-enable chip BR04.

The 9800GT is the same idea. Our source said it will still using G92. But the card will have two mio connectors for three-way SLI. Maybe the card will also have some difference (core clock ,shader frequency, etc)between the existing G92 video cards but it is certainly that shader processor will not glow up to as high as 192.

Think about NVIDIA’s Three-way SLI plan. They launch the Three-way SLI a month before 8800 Ultra’s EOL. After 8800 Ultra’s death there is no product for you to make a three-Way SLI in their product line. It is time to have some new product for Three-way SLI! (And we know the only thing GeForce 9800 GX2 can do is Quad SLI.)

It is NVIDIA’s magic: adding a chip, 680i change to 780i. Adding a connector,8800GT turn into 9800GT.

I wouldn't call that magic. So it looks like those of you with overclocked 8800gt cards already own the 9800gt. It sound like the geforce 9 series is intertwined with the geforce 8 series a bit too much.

Eh, i'll just sli my 8800GT's thank you very much. The 9800 series doesn't sound promising, who knows, maybe the crysis developers will say, hey, nobody's going to be able to run this game, so let's just fix the code to make it run on slower computers for once.

The 9800GT aint such a bad thing though, TRI SLI on the mid range (although that is quite ironic). Something that current 8800GT and GTS owners CANNOT do.

This is actually a great idea from Nvidia's part. Think about it... some ppl will actually buy a 780i and three of these for half the price of the ultras. This actually makes a lot of sense considering that Price/Performance is the most important thing.
