Now extremely high temps coupled with votlage will probably aggravate the situation but as long as you keep the voltages at rated maxes or below you should be good to go to keep your cpu functioning for a pretty long time.

Same thing with ram. The D9 chips can handle or should I say are rated at high spec of 85c (if I remember right may be 95c). However very few ram modules unless you have no air flow at all get to these temps and they are still dead. Its becaues the extra voltage we are pumping thru them that is wiping them out.

(atleast IMHO).

Now as these dies get smaller and smaller (or more compact I should say) the increases in voltage are gonna have a much more negative effect on there life as it gets increases.

Im sure that by the time we get 32nm out here they wont even hit say 40c under full load but with a .2voltage increase will be dead in a week.
i believe what your saying is true. makes me wonder about watercooling and if i should grab a system this month(like i planned on doing) or just stick to air seeing how the new chips are less heat intensive. maybe i'll have to think of something else to blow my money on...

How can you say that when this article clearly states that Intel hasn't released the actual Tjunction max? Nobody knows if it's 85 or 100 so why offer the advice?

I'm going by Tcase instead. My temperatures, while high by comparison are still under what is posted on the processor spec sheet.

My CPU was throttling @ 98c and Core Temp reads TJ of 100. Now that I've cleaned it, it wont pass 50c @ max load

That's why I always keep my Q6600's 24/7 peak load temps at or under 55c. So I am theoretically safe even if the temps are really 15c higher.
