ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE knows a 9600GT is twice as fast as an 8600GT.

The 8600GT's were a joke compared to the 9600.

The 9600 is about 10 percent behind an 8800 GT. An 8800 GT is light years ahead of the crappy 86xx series.

You do the math

You nor I could probably even find a comparison. You know why? Because they are in two seperate categories. You know the categories. 'Plays Games Very well' and the other one: 'Just barely gets by' LOL

Why the hell spend the time to make 1GB 9600GT where 512MB will not get used and make is 9600GT with 256MB which need 256Mb other to work. This one is like 8800GT 256MB and it will not get sales

8600GT was a massive failure. 9600GT returned the midrange to nVidia.

Quality SLI motherboard over a decent single-slot PCI-e will run you at least $60 more, if not $100 more.
Throw in the fact that SLI performance is spotty compared to a single card, and there's your proof.

And I'm not even sure if 8600GT cards in SLI will properly compare to the 9600GT anyway.

not even, considering some games arent even fully utilizing sli. comparing the 8600gt to the 9600gt is like comparing a honda civic to a subaru STI
