This is a subject that everyone creates their own personal system and method. Here is another review of the methods. What I found the most interesting is the method for the Heat-pipe direct touch coolers (HDT).

Check the last page for the HDT cooler methods.

I was looking at the HDT coolers to replace mine and I was wondering if the application of the thermal paste would be any different.

He's right though, if he hadn't explained it 10,000,000 people would have been "OMG i has to get me some grease for my elbows before I install my heatsink!"

Guess what the killer is? Application method of thermal paste won't affect your temps much at all, so don't worry about it.....just don't under apply it like a lot of people swear by here

1....grab the cpu
2....grab a butter knife 3.... evenly spread the thinnest coat possible over the IHS surface & off it goes worked perfectly for me every time .....temps are always great

Like i figured, Everyone swears by there own method, (me included). Though the HDT does add in another level of complexity to the problem. If you don't prefill the groves than the thermal paste will not cover completely. I had never even thought about that before. Though i don't own a HDT... yet.
thanks for the reps smee44

Nice find. I'll have to try that method for my HDT cooler.
