The main reason why they cant allow people to scale above a certain limit is because of how cable internet works.

If they let 1 person go hog crazy on their network, anyone within that location gets poor internet service. If two people went hog crazy on the same street the rest suffer alot.

DSL doesnt work that way. With DSL, the only time you will get slowness is if you are out side of the connection range.

The simple solution is this... UPGRADE the network. If you cant support people with higher bandwidth consumption then whey would they upgrade. It just doesnt make sense.

It wont happen. This isn't just about money, it's about our slow loss of internet use. The internet is too powerful of a medium for people to people communication and ideas.

Nope, this is purely about greed.

I hear ya, that is why I stick with my slightly slower bell-Aliant DSL service, no sense in having faster speeds if you can't use it all the time.

When an ISP applies a cap to bandwidth, do they have your bandwidth viewable online so you know how much you've used as the month goes on? Or is it a guessing game? -.-

Hah, consider yourselves lucky that that's only happening now. In NZ we've had capped data usage ever since broadband has existed... and it's still one of the slowest among developed nations!

The one company that does have an unlimited plan is slow as hell as their lines can't even handle 7mb/s for a country of 4 million, in which only a small percentage will be connected.
