Yeah. Good idea.

I don't really like bandwidth limit. I got it and it can be annoying when you went past your cap and they throttle your traffic to be more slower than 128KB/s. Although their are unmetered sites.

100% Agreed! This is crap. I guess the gov't should prohibit the use of automobiles because people could do illegal things with them do, (i.e. running people over, driving while intoxicated, running from the law, etc...)

then again, they would have to ban just about everything.
Knives
Chainsaws
lawnmowers
baseball bats
there's not one thing on this planet that I can think of that you can't do something illegal with!

I wish Verizon FIOS would get here so I could give them my $ instead of Comcast.

I think a good comparison here is alcohol, there are illigal things you can do with alcohol, but we all know that prohibition was a complete disaster and the wrong way to handle the problem. Same with bittorrent, you can't just block all of it, then you are punishing your law abiding customers as well. Kinda sumed up by the old expression about throwing out the baby with the bathwater.....

I said data transfer limit, not bandwidth limit. There's a difference. Either way, you don't think you could get by with the 250GB a month cap that Comcast has suggested? I know I don't use that much a month.

In fact, I see data transfer caps as the solution to the reluctance of some to adopt broadband and drop their dialup service. I know many elderly people who only use the internet for email and a small amount of browsing. Instead of the ISPs charging based on the speed of the connection, why not charge based on the amount of data that can be transferred each month? That way grandma and grandpa can have broadband, but only pay for what they need instead of paying for dialup.

Easy solution here is metered usage.
People who use it alot pay more, people who use it less pay less.

So let people who need more that 250G/month pay for that usage.

The day Verizon Fios got to my house I threw a party the next day.

With myself of course.

Yeah, you can't meter the internet. It's not a utility, it has no physical entity.
The problem that these cable companies had is already being said, they haven't really done much upgrading since the stabilized their systems years ago, and instead of adding more sub-stations and things of that sort, they would rather just take the people that already pay and give them less.
It's birlliant really, keep the cash; screw the customer.

If you're in Canada, Bell thottles torrent traffic like mad.
Speeds are only uncapped from ~2am to 1pm, and other than those times they throttle to 30kb/s max. It drives me mad >

Easy solution, don't use the internet!!

But seriously, if they do the limit thing, they BETTER have unlimited versions. In my family, we downloads 2-3TB a month.
