They did that on the 2900. Funny thing is that the 4780 (Gddr5 on a 256bit with an effective clockspeed of 3.8) matches or beats (forgot which) the 2900 in terms of bandwidth. And you quoted FUD

If i recall also it wasn't that they couldn't get 4ghz it is that they couldn't get 5ghz and had to settle for 4.5ghz.

R600 was also a bad architecture though and memory bandwidth was not the problem with it. I just wish that ATI/Nvidia would stop using the old 256bit bus.

512bit buses cost allot of money for little performance gains on current chips. However the R770XT of course needs the bandwidth. Thats why it has GDDR5+512bit.

Which is what I've been trying to tell people all along. The HD4870 aka R770XT core will have a 512bit bus with GDDR5. Theres no way that ATI/AMD would be dumb enough to give it a 256bit bus with GDDR5.

I'm only saying 512bit because that is what i read. I don't see it using it, GDDR5 should be enough unless it is a god chip the likes of which we have never seen on this planet.

When did people start trusting anything posted on Fud? The article that says 512bit is only 3 sentences long and sounds like a fanboy post that might be found on this forum!

All of this is conjecture, the ZDnet article has no references so it most likely purely based on the writer's opinions. He quotes the TGdaily article that clearly states that the prices are going to be in the $200-300 range for both cards, and they actually say they have sources. If a 4870 costs $350 then the GTX 280 will be well over $600.
