Default [TT] ASUS demonstrates 16GB DDR3-800 on P45

Source

Quote:
ASUS held a rather upbeat press event this afternoon here in Taipei city at the fancy Westin hotel.

While it was a little hard at first to get the event address details confirmed, we eventually made it and got a glimpse of ASUS’ P45 lineup which will officially launch next month at Computex.

ASUS had many interesting demos on display but the first that caught our attention was a demo of an ASUS P5Q Premium motherboard running a grand total of 16GB of memory under Windows Vista. Qimonda’s Aeneon DDR3 memory is to thank for the display.

There were a total of four 4GB XTune DDR3 memory modules running in Dual Channel. The memory was running at 800MHz DDR with timings of 5-5-5-18 at 2T. Take a look at the CPU-Z screenshot below which we grabbed as well as Windows Task Manager performance tab.

For those of you who dream nightly about having 16GB of system RAM, your dreams could be coming true on an Intel P45 motherboard in the next few weeks.
Pics on TT.

I thought DDR3 was faster than 400mhz? cos that looks like some serious underclocking on those

well im guessing they did that for a reason. i mean the last thing that ASUS would want is a BSOD like microsoft when they released windows 98 LOL!!!

but yeh 16Gb of DDR3 ram running at 800Mhz. they should have stuck with DDR2. but yeh how the hell are they going to use 16Gb of RAM.

But they do look pritty inviting.

Maybe because the memory controller can't handle it or it's too expensive to buy anything faster lol..

Wow 16GB that is some crazy! I saw that is not overkill.

Don't see what is wrong if WorkStation uses P45 though...

Wow okay stop enjoying your avatar for a second and get on topic. xD

Who on this planet would need 16gb of ram in a gaming PC?! WHY?! Although I do plan to go 8gb in my next one.
