Intel Overclocker

Its somewhat of a good Idea, I mean at work we had some crusty old dell laptops with 32mb Ati7500 graphics cards in them.
__________________I networked a load of em and bunged the original Unreal Tournament on em, Great! they run a treat and we had some fun at lunch and after work. Roll on a few days one of the guys wants it on his newish(Vista COMPATABLE) HP laptop (WITH INTEL INTEGRATED GRAPHICS) it may `BE` DX9 compatable but the game run like a bag of $h1T! (he was shocked!) I even run 3dmark03 on them both, the HP scored like 600 points but run all the tests. the old dell would only run the first test and scored ALOT higher than the new lappy did! The dell even run UT2004 and TOCA race driver 2 Demo at a VERY playable framerate! If `Gaming Compatable` means its got a STANDARD say like a CURRENT mid-low/ mid range graphics card in it, it will play MOST games you are gonna throw at it from the last few YEARS!

This will be good if implimented the right way, as said above, something such as a date (Spring 08, Winter 09) would have to be present.
And to those who say that isnt a very good computer: Its a hell of a lot better than a $500 Intel IGP computer no matter how you slice it.. thats what this is for, not for us enthusiasts.

i think it should be something like Game 420 or something, then when you look at the box it says Game 300 or higher computer Required. They would still have to include the minimum system requirements for people with Nvidia computers though.

Wow, I think I might have to buy a computer now. Here's to hoping my quarter bonus is >$2k so I can buy one and have money left over to have my new body panels painted.

That's what I get for not reading the article... Shame on AMD then for not promoting their 7 series IGP, especially after its strong showing in the earlier promos showing it playing Source games (the only ones that matter) at several times the speed and detail of Intel's IGP offerings.

Not worth making another news thread for it, so I'll just put it in here and encourage the original poster to add it in as a supplemental article.
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...129TX1K0000532 Apparently I am not the only one who understands that a simple label won't be enough to solve this issue. There needs to be more to it.

Are you referring to the 95% of people that own a PC? Yeah, what a waste of resources.

It's a good idea... BUT I don't think we should trust one company with an industry rating system. I can imagine that in an extreme situation they might say "don't buy Intel or Nvidia because they're not AMD Game certified".
__________________However, there does need to be an industry standard for a rating system like this, because the requirement stickers just don't cut it. They might say something like a recommended CPU 2.8 ghz... so if I have a 3.0ghz P4 from like 5+ years ago is that going to play it better than say a 5000+ which comes in at 2.6ghz? Even some of the moderate computer users will have to double-think that one. So in general I think this is a good idea, but it's just going in the wrong way. Why not just do a rating system based on 3dmarks? Like... DX9 Minimum 3dmark06 score: x000 Recommended: x000 DX10 Minimum 3dmark Vantage score: x000 Recommended: x000
