I use 2 - 20" 1680 x 1050 monitors. I think any more would be difficult to track whats going on. But I find 2 monitors to be very useful. When I am typing up a document I use the second monitor for my research or for a spreadsheet. When I am programming I can have all the API's and such in the second monitor. When I doing CAD I have the single CAD program span both monitors so I can have 2 full objects visible at once.

It isn't very useful for gaming though.

I think so. I have had 2 x 19" CRTs for years and I am scared to trade them in because I am so used to them. I simply cannot get along doing schoolwork without at least two monitors. I am trading them in for a pair of 21" Acers in about two weeks. For $180 apiece, you can't go wrong with them. One of my customers has an Acer 20" next to a $600 20" NEC monitor and they look IDENTICAL.

This is for sure a Matrox solution!

Either it is a Parhelia Card.
-> The only one with tripple or quad Display support in 3D Mode.

But as those Cards aren't to fast in DX9.
So I think it is just a modern nVidia or ATi Card with the "Tripple Head 2 go", scratching a single output signal to 3 Signals.

@Topic

I love my two 17"s
Great for work and in games I still see my ICQ, Media Player and Hardware info.
But I have to say that one screen is visible worse than the main one.
In normal price regions you never get two identical screens, I think.

Yes, but if you have something like three 8800 Ultras each of which displaying one screen it won't be a problem.

wont work.
no way you get 3 screens to work in SLI.
Non SLI wont allow you to run the game on more than 1 screen.

It is a Matrox solution.
That is the reason why Matrox still sells products.

A real scientific study found that one large monitor (i.e. 24") is more productive than 2 smaller ones (i.e. 2x19"). Can't find the article but it as published this year.

I used to use a second monitor for Photoshop. It came in handy to have the Canvas in front of me, while keeping the tools, internet, and music on the other. I recently got rid of it, because going from a 19" LCD to a 17" CRT was disorienting.

Oh, it's also very much useful for programming, especially Full screen apps.

That is quite interesting.... I personally prefer more horizontal distance than vertical distance, so I am not quite sure how that would work out...
