Hybrid my arse. It's just turning a fan on and off. You'll gain minimal advantages from less noise but there's still going to be many other fans in your case that you'll hear. But it does look like a much better heatsink design, you can see there's an extra bit curling around the fan. Looks good too.

IMO - I think the idea is good; but I agree that calling it "hybrid cooling" is a bit of a stretch.

So the fan has a built-in temperature sensor that kicks in when the GPU gets too hot? How does that differ from how my laptop fan works?

I don't see the idea.

AFAIK many cards can have their fans off under a certain temperature. If ambient is high enough, the fan of this card can still kick in. I don't see any new ideas behind this other than marketing.

If they can engineer the GPU core to output little to no heat during non-gaming situations, that'd be something innovative. Other than the looks of this card, I'd rather have the low-profile Galaxy 9600GT for a HTPC.
